Dear Elected Officials and Partners:

Please find attached this week’s updated COVID-19 Dashboard. As of Wednesday 3/24/21, our average daily COVID-19 case volume was 7. We have remained in single digits since mid-February. Our incidence rate is now 147/100,000, which puts us at the 34th highest rate in the state.

As of Monday, March 29th, all Ohioans age 16 and above are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination. It is important to note that those age 16 or 17 are only able to receive the Pfizer vaccine, which has limited availability in Pickaway County. The other 2 products are only labeled for 18 and above. So far, approximately 23% of Pickaway County residents have received at least one dose of vaccine.

Vaccination appointments can be made with the health department online at https://pickawaycountypublichealth.org/register/. Individuals can locate other providers by logging on to http://gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov/.

Please find attached this week’s updated COVID-19 Dashboard. As of Wednesday 3/10/21, our average daily COVID-19 case volume has fallen to 4 cases per day.  This is a similar daily case volume that we were seeing in summer 2020.

Vaccine eligibility now includes anyone over 50 as well as individuals in designated occupations and those with certain health conditions. So far, approximately 16% of Pickaway County residents have received at least one dose of vaccine. By the end of this week, all Pickaway County school staff members who wish to be vaccinated will have received their second dose.

With increased supply, we have begun receiving larger shipments and anyone eligible can now schedule their vaccination appointment online at https://pickawaycountypublichealth.org/register/. Please encourage your constituents and/or others served by your organization to get a vaccine as soon as they are eligible!

We did receive a small allocation of the single dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine last week, and we anticipate receiving more in the near future.

Please find attached this week’s updated COVID-19 Dashboard. As of Wednesday 2/17/21, our average daily COVID-19 case volume has fallen to 14.  We have now seen almost 5 weeks of steady decline in new cases reported. This week, our CMS test positivity rate is in the moderate range at 14.2% and is also continuing its downward trend . While new cases per 100,000 residents is also headed in the right direction, Pickaway County still has one of the highest incidence rates in the state at 338/100,000.

Vaccination efforts continue to be a major focus for the health department. Eligibility now includes anyone over 65 as well as individuals with certain congenital or early onset health conditions. So far, the health department has vaccinated approximately 2,800 individuals and we have completed the 2nd dose series for approximately 1,100 residents. As of last week, all Pickaway County school staff members who wished to be vaccinated received their first dose.

There are some indications that the federal government will increase supply of vaccine to the states over the next several weeks. There is also a third vaccine candidate (Johnson and Johnson) that may be approved in the next few weeks, which should also increase supply. As of now, there is no information on when these supply increases will result in expanding eligibility to receive the vaccine.

The link below will take you to this week’s updated COVID-19 Dashboard. As of Wednesday 1/27/20, our average daily COVID-19 case volume has fallen to 31.  We have now seen two weeks of steady decline in new cases reported. This week, our CMS test positivity rate remains high at 18.3% but is also trending downward. Unfortunately, Pickaway County is again identified as having the highest incidence rate per 100,000 residents in the state.

We are now finished with our second week of phase 1b vaccination. So far, the health department has vaccinated approximately 650 seniors age 75 and above as well as approximately 50 individuals with developmental disabilities. Vaccine allocations remain modest as supply continues to be extremely limited nationally. We are still awaiting guidance from the state on when Pickaway County schools will be allocated vaccine for their staff who are also identified in phase 1b.

Update January 15, 2021:

As of Thursday 1/14/20, Pickaway Counties average daily COVID-19 case volume stands at 46, down slightly from last week at 48. This week, our CMS test positivity rate remains significantly elevated at 20.7%. Pickaway County is one of 6 counties in Ohio with an incidence rate above 1,000 cases per 100,000 residents. This data shows that the virus is still widespread and continues to be transmitted throughout many settings. Sadly, we report that as of current confirmed death certificates received, 20 Pickaway County residents died of COVID-19 complications in December.

On the vaccine front, we have wrapped up our effort to vaccinate Phase 1a. PCPH administered a total of 390 doses of vaccine over the last 4 weeks to emergency responders and front-line healthcare workers. Next week, we will begin vaccinating the Phase 1b population, starting with those age 80 or above. We have only been allocated 200 doses next week, while close to 700 residents over 80 have pre-registered on our website. There are 4 other vaccine providers who will receive an allocation next week. Information on all providers was released to the media last night and I have attached that information to this email. Feel free to share among your channels to help get the word out. Pickaway County will receive a total of 600 doses.

As of Wednesday, 1/6/20, our average daily COVID-19 case volume stood at 48. Over the last two weeks, average case volumes have fallen somewhat from a peak of 57 cases per day just before Christmas. This week, Pickaway County's CMS test positivity rate remains significantly elevated at 20.2%. According to the Ohio Department of Health, Pickaway County has the second highest COVID-19 incidence rate in Ohio.

Over the last 3 weeks, PCPH has been allocated 300 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. We have administered almost all of those doses to EMS responders, frontline healthcare workers and those who live and work in congregate care facilities. We are actively planning for an expansion of those eligible to receive the vaccine to include older Ohioans and those working in schools. Over 2,000 individuals have submitted a pre-registration form indicating their interest in receiving the vaccine during the next phase of availability. Unfortunately, vaccine supply will remain extremely limited for some time and the guidance we are receiving from the State of Ohio on how we will be prioritizing members of these groups is rapidly changing. We plan to work collaboratively with all of our partners to communicate vaccination information to eligible Pickaway County residents as it becomes available. Ashville will keep updating this information.

These doses were administered to EMS personnel on 12/23 and will continue on 12/24. The next groups to be vaccinated by PCPH will include individuals with developmental disabilities and those with mental health disorders who live in group homes and residential facilities, as well as their caregivers. PCPH has also been designated to provide vaccine to the following additional high priority groups during Phase 1a:

  • Home health workers
  • Hospice workers
  • Primary care practitioners
  • Free-standing emergency department, urgent care, pharmacy, and dialysis center providers not vaccinated by hospitals or healthcare systems
  • Dental providers
  • Mobile unit practitioners
  • Federally-qualified health center providers

As the vaccination effort continues to unfold, PCPH will keep the public updated on their Facebook page and through the media as to when additional groups become eligible to be vaccinated. The Ohio Department of Health is currently working on Phase 1b of the vaccination plan and PCPH will follow that guidance once it is released. Please remember that all available vaccines will be administered only to those who choose to receive it.

PCPH LogoInformation December 15, 2020:

The health department is currently working on plans to administer the first few doses of vaccine to EMS responders as early as the week of December 21st. We will also be working with the DD Board to vaccinate group home residents. Hospital employees and long term care facility staff and residents are also included in the first phase and will be receiving the vaccine directly.

We will be following the state guidelines on priority populations that can be referenced at https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/covid-19-vaccination-program. There just isn’t enough information to provide a list of providers or a schedule for moving on to the second phase which is all essential workers, or the third phase which is high risk members of the general population.
