Douglas E. Clark was sworn in as Chief of Police, on Monday, July 19th. He will move into the position on August 1st. He was appointed by Mayor Wise with unanimous approval by a vote of council.
Clark served as police chief for Ashville for about a year in 1981 and was most recently hired by prior Chief Palmentera as sergeant in September 2008 and promoted on December 21, 2009 to Lieutenant. He also served 16 years on the Harrison Township Fire Department, retiring as a lieutenant in 2000. He was reelected in 2009 for a second term as trustee of Harrison Township.
Mayor Wise stated, “We’re going to continue on doing what we’re doing and building on what Denny Palmentera built while he was here,” Chief Clark said. “We’re going to continue to get rid of drug people and criminals, so we’re not giving up. Nothing’s going to change.” Council members offered Clark their congratulations following his swearing-in, all voicing confidence in their new chief. “I’m excited, not only that we have someone local, but because you’ve done a fantastic job as officer in charge,” said a councilmember. “We wish you the best of luck.”
